Description: Tin sign for Dr. Sawyer's Office. Faded brown/gold lettering and border, with black background. Finger points to right; holes for nails or screws. Painted black - nail holes in each corners and center of each side. Gold lettering and gold stripe in edge. Reads, “Dr. C.M. Sawyer’s Office Up Stairs.” Sawyer had office in Southwest Harbor in the late 19th century into the twentieth. Sign was taken from the Freeman-Wall’s house on Wesley Avenue in Southwest Harbor next door to Freeman’s store.Taken down by Jerry Craige owner of house in 1976. Sawyer’s Office reached by enclosed staircase in back of the building. [show more]

Description: Metal handle pushed whistle down much like a bellow. Forces air out of tin whistle at top. Air comes in through hole underneath. Hook keeps whistle closed. Brass tacks hold leather to wood. Attached tin plate reads, “J.H. Rowe Co. General agents Gloucester, Mass. Pat. Pending”.

Description: Olive in color. Sunburst in oval panel on obverse and reverse. Marked Keen. Made by Keene-Marlboro-Street Glass Works in Keene, New Hampshire. Donor info - found in barn of David Wasgatt house in Beech Hill (built approximately 1792). Bottle was half full of hardened varnish.
Description: Wooden chest with mitered corners. Wooden molding plane painted black. Small tray on left. Advertising label reads, “The Boys Star Tool Chest Containing a Choice Assortment of Tools.” Picture of elves getting into mischief and industrious boys using tools.
Description: Use unknown. Long wooden piece tapers to rounded point at bottom. Two holes drilled in wood. Narrower piece of wood at top with wooden pin inserted. 2009: Skip Brack at Liberty Tool Museum does not know how this would have been used - thought it was probably intended for a very specific use.
Description: Unknown item, (awl?) perhaps for repairing something (shoes? boots?). Consists of two wooden handles, approx. 4" overall, 1 small wrench (2.5" long overall), and 6 needle-like things that may insert in the wooden handles. Brought in box with label, "Wilsnap Fashion's Fastener". Found in building that housed old general store in Seal Harbor.
Description: Small tin horse very crude. Two halves of the horse fit together. Four legs of thin tin slide inside slits cut in body. Tin harness straps attached to head and extend beyond tail.
Description: Horse mounted on wooden platform with wheels. Hold for string to pull horse in platform. Made of stuffed burlap with hair attached. Hooves made of wood. Eyes made of round pins on nail heads. No tail. Donor info - found in attic of A.C. Fernald house.
