Site plan, elevations, foundation plans, floor plans, sections, details, framing plans, electrical plans. Roc's Comments: This is another Fox Family. John and Ellen Fox and their four small boys from Chicago. Great business approach and wonderful instincts for design. They were encouraging and careful clients and we enjoyed working for them. Todd Hardy was PM on the main house and Lonny Doyle PM on the very funky "garage/guest quarters/carriage house" [show more]

Eicher/Corrow Residence
Northeast Harbor Library
Description:
Foundation plan, floor plans, elevations, sections, sketches. Roc's Comments: Eva Eicher and Dorcas Corrow were excellent scientists and an integral part of the Jackson Lab. They owned land on Hodgdon Pond in Seal Cove and first asked me to help them renovate a little old house they lived in as a temporary residence and then asked for the design of a new home closer to the Pond. I should have know that working with a scientist as accomplished as Eva would be no small task. She questioned (with no malice) EVERYTHING. And she wanted to be a part of the process. I did probably twenty different designs and three or four models for them to review. Each one got closer to their dream home. It was a compliment to me that they were so deeply interested in every facet of my work. Eva each time had to start with the exact size and location of the kitchen sink. From there she worked her way out thru the building. They became very close and dear friends and I treasure the time we spent working this dream home out. They love the location of the sink. Description:
John Melbourne Rich took the design for his new house in Tremont from Design 24 in the 1888 version of Palliser's "New Cottage Homes and Details." The Pallisers showed two versions of Design 24. One, a modest house without a tower, and one, a showpiece with tower that could be built for a "cost of $1,700." For this amount one received, "plans, elevations, details and perspective view of a comfortable, convenient cottage home of six rooms, with tower which is designed to command a view of the surrounding country where erected." John Melbourne Rich chose the showy tower version with which to command a view of Tremont. He probably did not pay $1,700 for the plans, being an experienced builder, perfectly capable of building what he wanted by looking at the plans in the prospectus. John Melbourne Rich built his house in 1896. "John Rich [1853-1919] whose house was burnt a short time ago near Duck Cove, has bought a house-lot near the bridge on the west side [of Bass Harbor] and will build this fall. He is digging the cellar now." - The Ellsworth American, September 10, 1896. [show more]
