Note on ribbon across seat indicated that chair may have been used in Daniel Somes's house. Ellsworth furniture restorer David Williams saw this chair; his research indicated that it may be a ninetheenth Venetian grotto chair, which was intended for hallways and aimed to be sold to visitors on their European tours.
