| Ralph Warren Stanley's First Lion's Head Violin Scroll Southwest Harbor Public Library Description: Ralph built his first violin, the “Underwood” violin, in 1955 using a birch stair tread from the demolished Underwood cottage, “Squirrelhurst.” The tradition of Lion’s Head scrolls goes as far back as at least the 17th Century when Austrian Jakob Stainer, “one of the great violin makers of all times” made his Lion’s Head scroll violins. |
