The chauffeur standing at left in the photograph is representative of the "summer business." There is a round metal "MICHELIN" sign to the left of the door. The car on the left (with chauffeur) is a Pierce-Arrow, a 1915 Model 38, 5-passenger touring car. The second car from the left is a 1916 Overland Model 83B 5 or 7-passenger touring car. The third car from left is a 1916 Hudson Super Six 5 or 7-passenger phaeton. The last car on the right is probably a 1912 Cadillac 7-passenger touring car. In 1940 the phone number for Southwest Motor Company was 51-2. [show more] | |

| Southwest Harbor Motor Co. Southwest Harbor Public Library Description: The tower at the top left of the photograph housed the fire whistle behind Gilley Plumbing building on the left. The fire truck was kept in a small building beside the whistle in a corner of the present [2010] Pemetic School playground. This was previously site of Moore's Garage Co. and is the site of the Post Office building today [2017]. "The Gilley and Salisbury plumbing shop was at first built by George H. Gilley on his lot near his home on the Main Road and was used there as a plumber's shop for some years. Then it was moved to its present situation and in 1929 it was moved to the rear of the lot and the show rooms and upstairs living apartment were built. Mr. Gilley's grandson, Wendell H.
