Description: This is one of six 8 by 10 inch black and white photographs which are COPIES of Ballard photographs used in an exhibit from around 2001. The source of these prints is marked Jaylene. This photograph is of the Claremont Hotel from the water. There is a rowboat in the foreground. The float is in at the dock. The boat house is in the photo but without the deck it has now. The trees come up to the lawn hiding one house on the right side of the picture. Another house is more in view to the right of the hidden house. This is white with dormers. The original of this photo --and possibly the negative -- are in the collection of the Southwest Harbor Public Library. MDIHS does not have permission to reproduce this image. [show more]
Description: This photograph is printed on a mat. There is an overturned punt in the foreground, a tree-lined shore, and a building on the right center of the picture. The caption on the back reads, "Mt. Desert Island Scene".
Description: This picture offers a clear view of the inside of a boat shop. Tools are hanging on the walls and the skiff in progress is perched on sawbucks. Ralph Stanley said this is a picture of Bob Rich's father, Cliff Rich. The other person is an adult named Eddie Hamblen. Meredith Hutchins and Emma Richards agree with Ralph's identification. Both women are members of the Rich family. Even though Paul Stubing said this is a photograph of Bobby Rich and his nephew working on a skiff in Bass Harbor, we have since found out through local people that it is Cliff Rich, Bob's father.
