Photo of the children of lighthouse keeper Vinal Beal: Alston, Velora, Virginia and Robena Beal. Photo is not dated. Janet Ellis says the photo was probably not taken on Mount Desert Rock -- there is grass in the picture. The children, she says, had only two outfits - one for school and one for play. Beal was second assistant (1909-1910), first assistant (1910-1911), then principal keeper (1911-c. 1918) of Mount Desert Rock lighthouse.

A barn below the split rail fance at right. In the distance at the extreme left what appears to be water, an arm of the Atlantic. Beyond Mrs. Fuller and a wood pile is a fourth building. The object beyond the wood pile may be a wooden bench. The object behind the storage building may be a hogshead. Undated. No indication who wrote this note. Oval photograph of Marian Lawrence Peabody in evening dress, black with white bodice detail. Marian Lawrence Peabody (1875-1974) was the daughter of Bishop Lawrence (1850-1941) and Julia Cunningham Lawrence (1853-1927). Known as "Maisie" she grew up in Boston and Cambridge, MA and summered in Bar Harbor, ME with her family. In May 1906 she married Harold Peabody (1880-1961). The donor of the picture, Gertrude Lawrence Peabody McCue (1915-2005) was their daughter. Gertrude McCue owned the Claremont Hotel in Southwest Harbor and had a home on Beech Hill Road. [the biographical information comes from the biograhical sketch that accompanies the Marian Lawrence Peabody Papers at the Massachusetts Historical Society; the information about Gertrude McCue needs to be augmented] Ann Benson and Roz Rae thoroughly searched all Photo Album binders on10/14/16 and could not find this image.
