Probably dates to the 1880s-1890s. Every line of type is different. Fine example of a typesetter's skill. A gift to the Historical Society in honor of Louisa Kennedy. Poster dimensions: approximately 13 1/4" wide by 20" in height.
Description: Framed letter from Capt. John Francis Hodgdon to Frank Leslie Hodgdon. Two frames glued back to back showing both sides of paper through glass. Typed transcript of letter in object file. Donor info - This is the last letter written by my grandfather Capt. John Francis Hodgdon. It was written to my father, Frank Leslie Hodgdon. Capt Hodgdon was lost with his ship the Theodore Dean off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina a few week later.
Description: Certificate of ordination as Priest in the Episcopal Church, Diocese of California, for William Thomas Manning. December 12, 1891. Certificate is handwritten and bears the seal of the Diocese of California. Manning owned The Mount Desert House in Somesville, where he and his family summered. Manning later became Bishop of the Diocese of New York. Description: Stereoscopic view of the Jayne Cottage, off Cleftstone Road, Bar Harbor. The Jayne Cottage was designed in the Shingle Style by Boston architect William Ralph Emerson and built in 1887-1888. The original owner was Dr. Horace Jayne. The house burned in 1947. This stereoscopic view is stamped E. Emery, Bar Harbor, Maine and is labeled Mrs. Jayne.
Description: Oblique photograph of The Briars, a cottage near the Shore Path in Bar Harbor. The house is largely obscured by trees, and gates are visible, as is part of a stone wall. The Briars was built for J. Montgomery Sears and was designed by W. Ralph Emerson. It was later owned by Evalyn Walsh McLean. The house was torn down around 1968. On the back of the photograph is the stamp of E. Emery, Bar Harbor. In blue ink is written "Thayer Cottage, Bar Harbor Maine" In pencil is written Livingston Road. [show more]
