Pair of brown suede woman's shoes, approx. size 7. Belonged to pianist Lili Kraus. Susannah Jones: "These shoes belonged to Lili Kraus, world-class pianist. She was a neighbor and close friend when we lived in Burnsville, North Carolina from 1970 to 1987, the year that Lili Kraus died. I inherited her shoes because they were a perfect fit. What a thrill it has been to walk in this great artist's shoes." Four gold metal rings for brown shoe laces on each shoe. Heels approx. 1.5 inches in height. [show more]

Wooden shuttle mounted on board and framed. Also a framed bill from Isaac Somes to Sylvanus Higgins, Mt. Desert, May 29, 1862, for carding and oiling 17 3/4 lbs of wool at 6 cts per lb. In print below shuttle and bill, “From Old Woolen Mill in Somesville owned by Isaac Somes”. On back a pastel of woolen mill by Howe D. Higgins, grandson of Sylvanus. Done on April 21, 1972. Caption on back describes the mill. Note: The pastel painting of the woolen mill has been removed from the back and is located in Flat File #2, Drawer #8 with two other Howe Higgins paintings. Clock, in wooden case with pendulum window (pendulum missing), engraved brass plate "Made for Longfellow School Great Cranberry Isle with pleasure by Ralph Gould 1978", inside case is written "made by Ralph Gould 1976", the clock mechanism seems to be all brass, except for the pendulum attachment stub, with three chimes inside; the clock itself tries to run but ticks only for a short time, perhaps because of the missing pendulum; the glass face opens and has two key holes, probably to wind the clock and the chimes; the face has roman numerals. face: 12" diam, face frame 15.5" W (octagonal), cabinet: 16" L x 7.25" W x 3.75" D [show more]

Ship hardware. Collection of four large brass/metal artifacts recovered by Wesley Bracy Jr. (a.k.a. "Junior:) from local waters while scuba diving 1970-1980s. Items were either loaned or donated to GCIHS in 2000. (A): Artifact, letter "A" metal plate, from tug Astro an ocean-going tug towing a barge that ran ashore on Mt. Desert Rock 1902. Astro sank but barge okay. (B): Bow bit from the Ara, Deane's ocean-going private yacht that sank 1926 off Little Duck Island; (C): cleat; (D:) fire nozzle possibly from Deane's yacht.
