| The House at Lobster Cove Mount Desert Island Historical Society Description: This videotape is a history of the home "Cragsyde", aka Kragsyde, a design of Robert Swain Peabody. The video includes historic photographs and commentary, by Wheaton Arnold Holden. This home was built at Manchester-by-the Sea, Massachusetts in 1884 for George Nixon Black, the same owner of Woodlawn House, Ellsworth, Maine. The house was torn down in 1929. The house was also reproduced during the years 2005-6, using original plans, by a family on Swans Island. Other house in video is "La Tourelle", built ca 1930, destroyed 1947. | Captain Eben L. Higgins Mount Desert Island Historical Society Description: Cased daguerreotype of Capt. Eben L. Higgins, sea captain of Mount Desert (1807-1900). Calling card of Mrs. Lester E. Pray is enclosed in the case. Note on back of card: "Picture of Capt. Eben L. Higgins, one of the well known Sea Captains of the island in former years." Captain Higgins was the husband of Hannah D. He died on December 28, 1900, at age 92 years, 9 months, and is buried in the Hamilton Station Cemetery in Bar Harbor. [show more] |
