Note: 04/26/2018 - Mount Desert Island High School was not an entity until 1965. Prior to that time, students attended high school at Gilman(later called Mount Desert High School), Pemetic, or Bar Harbor High Schools. Not know which school this plaque was attached to. Description: Bowl, two plates, four cups and a pitcher. Bowl, pitcher and cups marked, “I. Trask”. Trask was a pewterer of Beverly, Massachusetts from 1792 - 1847. The two plates are marked, “Calder”. He was a pewterer of Providence Rhode Island from 1825 - 1850. Given to the Somesville Union Meeting House by Nehemiah Kittredge. On August 19, 2009, these articles were photographed individually by Anne L. Welles. The pitcher is first, followed by the cups, bowl and plates. (see image management and click on the arrows to proceed through the pictures. Each item has two pictures of different views.) For the purposes of labeling in the archival room, the pitcher is 995-95-95a, the four cups are 95-95-95b, the bowl is 995-95-95c, and the two plates are 995-95-95d. [show more]

Description: Bag made of carpet with corded handle covered with carpet. Dark brown and cream with touches of plum. light blue and rose. Lined with fabric. Flap hooks over front. Lock plate attaches to front. Hooks and eyes inside flap. Provenance unknown. Very similar to 996-71-289
Description: Pig hide, worn at edges. Three large stains on bottom (ink or water). Four metal nobs on bottom of bag. Handle worn - leather sewn over cord which is wrapped with stiff paper. Handle attaches to metal ‘D’ rings and then to metal plate on top of bag. Spring latch with metal ring to pull bag open. Metal edge attached to leather at opening. Two catches close over metal binding. Inside lining torn in several places. One pocket inside. Satchel owned by Mr. Henry Clark owner of Clark and Parker General Store at present site of Oceanarium in Southwest Harbor. [show more]

Description: School master's desk. Top lifts to reveal space for books and pencils. One drawer at top with white knob. Two doors with shelves behind. One drawer at bottom missing pull. Decorative cut base. Lender info - used by Lynam Smith during the 1850s when he was the teacher in the first school in Pretty Marsh, called "The Little Red Schoolhouse." Lyman Smith also taught in other area schools. Donor is a descendant of Smith.
Description: Made by Dr. Kendall Kittredge for his baby daughter. Seven generations of the Kittredge family have slept in it. Crib has one open side so that it can be pushed against the mother's bed. Made of wood. Wooden pegged construction. Turned posts. Rope webbing. Later used in the Fred Wiggin house. 3' 11" long, 2' 3/4" wide. 3' 3 1/2" high.
