The photograph was taken by unknown summer visitors and carefully preserved in an album. They were probably standing on Main Street. It is not visible from Main Street now, but the Congregational Church at 29 High Road is clearly visible in the background. The other buildings shown in the building from Left to Right: William Joseph Tower House and Barn – 38 Clark Point Road Isaac Herrick House (partially visible to left of Phillips house door) – 43 Clark Point Road Dirigo Hotel (visible just above the portico on the right side of the Phillips house – 45 Dirigo Road, burned in 1960. Description:
The house on the right was the Osborne Milton & Wilford Howard Kittredge house - and the church on the horizon is the Tremont Congregational Church. The dam caused the marsh to flood, which encouraged salt hay to grow. The dam was opened at harvest time.

Description:
“Mrs. Fox” is probably Marion Quincy (Winslow) Rand (1868-1915), photographer Henry Lathrop Rand’s wife. The fox mask appears in several other playful pictures. There is a splint-ash chair in the hut and bunches of balsam branches apparently on a bench. The outside of the hut had a sapling trellis attached to the surface of the building. Balsam branches were attached to it.
