Description:
In the War of 1812, during the British blockade of the east coast, two British frigates, HMS Junon and HMS Tenedos, chased the USS Constitution into Marblehead Harbor and the safety of Fort Sewall. July 1997, in honor of the 200th anniversary of USS Constitution, "Old Ironsides," commissioning, Capt. William Harland Kelley was chosen to sail the famous 204’, 3-masted wooden frigate out of Boston, into Marblehead Harbor and back to Boston. This was her first independent sail in 116 years. Description:
About this photo, George Bedigan wrote: "I have enclosed scan of my father’s (Jean Bedigian) discharge papers from SS Norembega. The picture in question looks to be more circa 1920 than 1902. I say that after examining the gentleman with the suit and tie. If Jean Bedigian is in the photo it would be the fourth crew member from the left. I do not have a photo of him at that time but a photo of one of his sons (attached .. soldier on the right ) has a likeness. Also he was not a tall man approx. 5’ 7”. Jean’s mother (Zois) and sister(Maria who married an American soldier) emigrated to the US after the first world war and may have settled in the area." Jean Bedigian (1885-1950) [show more]

Description:
"Harvard Riley Beal’s (1897-1967) bait scow is at the far left. The fully canvassed boat behind the rigging on the left was “Frolic,” Harold L. Wedge’s (1912-1986) passenger launch. The dark boat in the right middle belonged to Leslie Stanwood King (1879-1936) who ran fish and rum in it. Spray hood boat on the far right, partly out of the picture, was Grover Ambrose Morse’s (1885-1960) boat, built by Lewis Melvin Candage (1867-1950)." [show more]
