Shows the original land holdings of earliest settlers. This map had been in the possession of the descendants of Abraham Somes, who came from Gloucester, MA in 1761 as the first permanent white settler on MDI. John Allen Somes (1872-1930) gave the original map to the Historical Society. It was probably one of the first gifts to the Society, which was founded in 1929. [show more] | ||||

Shows the original land holdings of earliest settlers. This map had been in the possession of the descendants of Abraham Somes, who came from Gloucester, MA in 1761 as the first permanent white settler on MDI. John Allen Somes (1872-1930) gave the original map to the Historical Society. It was probably one of the first gifts to the Society, which was founded in 1929. This record is a DVD which contains copies of the map in a digital format. If a printed image of these is made, it is suggested that the image be taken from the disc copy of the photos for higher resolution. It is possible that the image cataloged in Past Perfect database has been made smaller for storage purposes. [show more] | ||||
