Description: A. Photo, black and white, wood and glass frame. School children standing outside the old school house on schoolhouse hill ca. 1892 or 1893. (This old school house is now Malcolm Donald's house on Cranberry Road across from the GCIHS.) Donor related, "This picture was found behind the eaves of an upstairs closet where it had no doubt accidentally fallen many decades ago. Our house was formerly owned by Eber Spurling. The names of the people are written (in good handwriting!) by pencil, as follows, on the back of the picture frame. It would be interesting if those with local knowledge could calculate the approximate year of this photograph, and recall the married names of the girls and young women in the picture." . Stored with a booklet of the scanned photographs printed with names of individuals overlaid. B. Inscription on back of frame reads - "Back row left to right: 1. Lena Ladd, 2. Miss Rich - teacher, 3. Description: Stereoscopic view of the Jayne Cottage, off Cleftstone Road, Bar Harbor. The Jayne Cottage was designed in the Shingle Style by Boston architect William Ralph Emerson and built in 1887-1888. The original owner was Dr. Horace Jayne. The house burned in 1947. This stereoscopic view is stamped E. Emery, Bar Harbor, Maine and is labeled Mrs. Jayne.
Description: Oblique photograph of The Briars, a cottage near the Shore Path in Bar Harbor. The house is largely obscured by trees, and gates are visible, as is part of a stone wall. The Briars was built for J. Montgomery Sears and was designed by W. Ralph Emerson. It was later owned by Evalyn Walsh McLean. The house was torn down around 1968. On the back of the photograph is the stamp of E. Emery, Bar Harbor. In blue ink is written "Thayer Cottage, Bar Harbor Maine" In pencil is written Livingston Road. [show more]

Description: Paul Stubing indicated that this photo was taken on the Bernard shore . Paul Stubing said this is a George Neal photo. The vessel, Palestine, is not known or identified in other ways. More information about this photo is needed. It appears that this was an old photo and Ballard probably made a glass negative of the photo. Rights to use the photo are unknown.
