Originally published in connection with the War Department (Ellsworth).
Description: Printed copy of 1966 color map drawn by Tom Culverwell, annotated to show location of historic sites and villages on Mount Desert Island, and also contemporary roads, mountain names, cove names, ferry routes and campgrounds. Includes Cranberry Islands, Bartlett's and other nearby islands. Color inset shows Acadia National Park lands.
Description: A copy of a map of the Path and Road for the Eastern Part of Mount Desert Island, Maine. Originally compiled by Waldron Bates, Edward L. Rand and Herbert Jaques. Revised and published by William Jay Turner in 1941. Shows Main Trails Graded, Other Trails, Old Woods Road, and the Carrriage Roads.
Description: Original map of the western part of Mount Desert Island as surveyed by Salem Town in 1808. Shows the original land holdings of earliest settlers. This map had been in the possession of the descendants of Abraham Somes, who came from Gloucester, MA in 1761 as the first permanent white settler on MDI. John Allen Somes (1872-1930) gave the original map to the Historical Society. It was probably one of the first gifts to the Society, which was founded in 1929. [show more]

This record is a DVD which contains copies of the map in a digital format. If a printed image of these is made, it is suggested that the image be taken from the disc copy of the photos for higher resolution. It is possible that the image cataloged in Past Perfect database has been made smaller for storage purposes. [show more]

Burr, Northeast Harbor, Maine. The full date is February 5, 1957. The map key denotes two districts: A and B. The map measures 12 and 1/2 by 20 inches.
