| Emily S. Rogers Cottage Southwest Harbor Public Library Description: “The cottage on the corner of the High Road and Causeway Lane was built at the Back Shore by William Cram as a summer home for himself and family. Mr. Cram sold it to S.R. Clark [Schuyler R. Clark] who moved it to its present location and remodeled it…” - “Traditions and Records of Southwest Harbor and Somesville, Mount Desert Island, Maine” by Mrs. Seth S. Thornton, p. 163-164, 1938. William Cram apparently sold his house to Schuyler Clark and the land to Emily S. Rogers. Schuyler moved the cottage to the High Road. In 1938 the Cram cottage on High Road belonged to the heirs of Professor Kropman of Providence, Rhode Island. The house was bought by Elmer L. (1920-2010) and Prudence M. (Benson) Beal in 1945 and remained theirs until at least 2010. Emily S. Rogers was born in August 1842 in Massachusetts. She built her house on the Cram land at 20 Schuyler Lane in 1908-1909.
