Negative and 11"x14" photo of Lewis (Lew) Stanley's boatyard located on the pool during the wintertime with the pool frozen. The boatyard was later sold to Heliker and LaHotan and they tore it down because it was a hazard and in rough shape. Mickey Macfarlan who said that towards the end of his life Lew Stanley was hard up for money and could no longer repair the boatyard. Mickey said Lew was always complaining that people were stealing from the boatyard - the second floor of it was chock full of all sorts of things. |  William H. Ward Sr. Approval for Wharf Extension by the Selectmen of Tremont Southwest Harbor Public Library Description: "The Selectmen of the Town of Tremont, upon the application of William H. Ward of said Tremont for license to extend his wharf into the tide-waters of S.W. Harbor, within his limit of said Town, having given lawful notices of their meeting to examine the premises and give a hearing to all parties interested therein, and having met at this time and place appointed and for the purposes named in said notice, and having decided that the extension asked for would not be an obstruction to navigation nor an injury to the rights of others, in accordance with the Statutes of this State, do hereby issue this license unto the said William H. Ward authorizing him to extend his wharf into the tide-waters of said SouthWest Harbor; said extension not to exceed one hundred feet in width and three hundred feet in length, in a northeasterly direction from the pier now standing on said Ward's Shore, on the southwesterly side of said S.W. Sinkler (1944-2007) - son of William Lukens Elkins Sinkler - or possibly Richard's brother, William L. Sinkler, Jr. - Richard would have been about 8 years old when this photograph was taken. People more informed than we may help us to positively identify this child. William Lukens Elkins Sinkler (1919-) Francis Milton Spurling (1896-1958) - sailed for the Sinkler family. The fish was a circa 500 lb. tuna (formerly called "Horse Mackerel" in these waters) - possibly the one described as being harpooned in “Leaves Folded Down” See: “Leaves Folded Down” by Louise E.
