Description: Lincoln Allen's account on the schooner Lizzie Maud. This slip shows a payment for insurance, cash paid by check, and other boat related payments. The Lizzie Maud was a schooner that travelled around the Cranberry Isles, the Lizzie Maud wrecked in 1904 and the shipwreck is frequently visited.
Description: A bill of sale for a boat to Benjamin Spurling. The boat was sold to Spurling by a woman named Dora Boyd, who was in charge of Frank I. Reed's Estate. Frank Reed previously owned the boat, and lived in Boothbay Harbor.

Description: "American Marksmanship Claims British Vessel." - Part 185 of Fred Humiston's "Blue Water Men - and Women." This story is about Edward Preble, it starts by telling of Preble's youth as a farm boy and his journey with learning how to be a seaman. The story then switches over to the story of a navy ship that fired a deadly shot to a British ship. This part says " The 'protector' fired a deadly raking broadside, which brought down the mizzenmast and set the main top-gallant afire." [show more]
Description: A Gloucester fishing schooner sails not far from Mount Desert Rock under partial sail. A number of people are visible on the deck, and a stack of dories can be seen between the masts. A large flag has the name of the vessel, which appears to be two words, though only Frances P. M______ is visible. William H. Bunting has (July 2021) identified this schooner as the Frances P. Mesquita, of Gloucester. Built in Gloucester in 1905, she was owned and commanded by Capt. Joseph Mesquita, and was both a successful fishing and racing vessel. She was sold in 1918 to owners from Newfoundland, and sunk by a U-boat that year. The envelope with this negative reads: No. 7 f., Tower, Single Tenement + Double Tenement, Looking N.W." and is likely an envelope reused from another negative. [show more]

The MDI Class Sloops were designed by Ralph Winslow in 1924 and 16 were constructed to teach the children of Mount Desert Island summer residents to sail. Description: Model of Controversy 36' Constellation built by Duane Muzzy in 2012. A pram, called "Little Dipper" was added to this model by Duane Muzzy as a bit of a whimsy, playing off the name of the boat, but was never on the original boat. The original Constellation was built by Mount Desert Yacht Yard and was owned yard owner, E. Farnham Butler.

Description: Half model of a sloop, perhaps a Luders 16, with a Genoa jib, made by Robert L. Smallidge Sr. of Northeast Harbor. Model's hull is varnished, and uses various wood types for topsides, waterline, and bottom, while the sails are painted white. The model and sails are mounted on a pine board. On the back of the model is #6, R.L. Smallidge, N.E. Harbor, Me.
